International Patent Applications (PCT)

An international patent application only involves application proceedings and unlike a European patent application it does not result in a granted patent.

The international patent application has the advantage of an option in filing a single (“international”) application for a national/regional patent in any of the Contracting States of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) that belong to the Contracting States at the time of the date of filing. For this, the international patent application needs to be forwarded within 30 months from the date of filing application/priority to the desired national/regional Patent Offices to effect the national phase.
